Marble mountains are located in Ngu Hanh Son ward, about 7 kilometers from Da Nang City to the Southeast. In Marble Mountains, there are many kinds of stone with various colors and it is the source of sculpture and arts.
According to the legend of the dragon and the tortoise, a dragon suddenly emerged from the water and laid an egg. After that, the dragon disappears and a golden turtle came. It has mission to protect the egg to any danger. A thousand days and thousand nights, the egg slowly grew until hatched. The dragon egg broke into five pieces, founding the five elements which are the marble mountain.
Today, Marble mountains includes five mountains representing the five elements of the earth: Kim Son( Metal mountain), Thuy Son( water mountain), Moc Son( wood mountain), Hoa Son( fire mountain) and Tho Son( Earth mountain). All of them contain unique sense and have cave entrance and many tunnels. Metal Mountain (Kim Son) is situated on the bank of Co Co river. Tourists can see Quan Am, Thai Son pagodas and Quan Am cave, considered the mysterious cave by strange and suggestive shapes.
Travelling by boat is the highlight when coming here. Tourists can see the shadow of the marble mountains and the reflection of the temple on the river. Moc Son is a small mountain of steep slopes. Although it is called “Wood Mountain”, it has fewer trees. On the mountain, there has small cave of Ba Trung mountain where is shelter for local people in wars. There is no pagoda. It only has white marble stone as the shape of people.
Thuy Son( water mountain) is the largest and most beautiful mountain with an area of 15 hectares. This mountain comprises three rocky peaks. In the South is Trung Thai. Tourists can see the sky gate, Van Thong cave, Thien Long cave and Van Nguyet grotto. The lowest peak is Ha Thai in the East. It consists of Vong Hai Dai, Linh Ung pagoda, Ngu Coc cave and Am Phu cave. After passing 156 stone steps, it is would lead to Tam Quan old gates of Tan Thai pagoda in Thuong Thai Mount. There has also Tu Lam pagoda, Tam Tam pagoda, Vong Giang Dai, Hoa Nghien cave, Huyen Khong cave and Ninh Nam cave. In Hoa Son, there has Linh Son pagoda, Huyen Vi cave, Pho Da Son cave. Tho Son( Earth mountain) is the longest mountain in Ngu Hanh Son. Huyen Vi cave make fascinating and charming to visitors by Buddlist statue made of sandstone. In the cave, there are also bell, drum and stone belong to Buddhist items. At the end of the cave is the fresh pool- Cam Lo pool. Long Hoa pagoda is the highlight of Tho Son contributing to the beauty of whole picture of Non Nuoc- Ngu Hanh Son Mountain.
Marble Mountains in Da Nang attracts thousands of tourists to visit by peaks, caves, tunnels and temples. Tourists can discover and enjoy it by themselves.
